Preserving America’s urban forests one acre at a time

The value of urban forests

Three Oaks Carbon treat forests as critical living infrastructure, and have built a sustainable, scalable financial model around this concept.

The benefits of urban forests:

  • Cool overheated neighborhoods
  • Absorb stormwater during floods
  • Purify air
  • Improve public health outcomes

Like roads or power lines, these forests deliver essential services. But unlike built infrastructure, they regenerate value every year and do it silently, beautifully, and without cost to taxpayers.

Urban forests are deeply connected to local communities

Three Oaks Carbon’s projects are embedded in the communities they protect. Every acre they preserve is in or near a growing U.S. community where green space is rapidly disappearing. These aren’t remote forests on a different continent; they’re living, community infrastructure.

Through carbon finance, they place a monetary value on these essential forest services, giving landowners, businesses, and local governments a practical way to preserve nature as infrastructure, not an afterthought.

McAlister Family Forest preservation

The McAlister Family had owned their 51 acres of oak forest for generations, but are now under growing financial pressure to sell their land to developers.  Not only are their personal ties to the land on the line, but so is the health of the local water, air, and wildlife.

Thanks to Three Oaks Carbon, the McAlisters have another option. The carbon markets are setting them up on a pathway to keep their land intact, avoid the release of over 10,000 tonnes of CO2 that would have ultimately been released during deforestation, and earn revenue in the process.

Urban forestry in your backyard

As the story about the McAlister Family Forest demonstrates, buyers aren’t just purchasing a carbon offset, they’re investing in conservation stories rooted in American land, values, and communities.

From century-old family forests in fast-developing neighborhoods to forests buffering historic sites, our projects resonate with purpose and place. This narrative power is valuable to brands with strong domestic consumer bases looking for a story tied to the communities in which they operate.
